Most young children love to put things in their mouth. However, some children are aversive to textures and tastes. This could be a learned behavior or part of a medical problem. This class will expose children to a variety of textures, smells, and tastes (both non-food and food) in a safe, fun environment. Parents will learn how to incorporate activities and techniques at home that promote greater acceptance of food and reduce texture aversion and “picky” eating.
Class participants will learn the basics of mindfulness, which defined as being present in the moment, paying attention to surroundings, self, and others, in a non-judgmental way. All ages can benefit from mindfulness. Research shows that mindfulness improves focus, attention, self-regulation, compassion, academic/work performance, decreased stress, depression, and anxiety, and more. Activities will be based on the class age group. May include some simple movement exercises.
